End of the Road for AnandTech: Bye Bye!

The AnandTech Forums will continue under the stewardship of Future’s community team and our devoted moderators. With threads dating back to 1999 and a cadre of longstanding members, these forums possess a rich history that will continue to serve as a platform for tech discourse even after AnandTech bids farewell.

Much has changed in the last quarter-century. Back in 1997, terms like “GPU” had yet to be introduced by NVIDIA. We’ve been fortunate to observe the evolution of the hardware landscape, from clunky desktop computers to laptops resembling portable workstations, to today’s diminutive yet potent pocket computers.

It has been an honor to be part of AnandTech for nearly two decades and witness its profound impact on the tech landscape. While my stint as editor-in-chief concludes with this chapter, I eagerly anticipate the new frontiers that technology will unveil in the future.

Although the AnandTech team is taking a step back, the AnandTech website will remain operational under the umbrella of our publisher, Future PLC, ensuring its continued existence. Existing articles will stay accessible for reference. While new content may not be added, the treasure trove of information disseminated over the decades will remain pertinent and easily retrievable.

Of course, none of this would have been achievable without Anand Lal Shimpi, who laid the cornerstone for AnandTech from his bedroom 27 years ago. While Anand withdrew from tech journalism a decade ago, his dedication to excellence and the wisdom imparted have continued to influence AnandTech to this day.

Reflecting on AnandTech’s 27-year odyssey fills me with gratitude for the countless individuals, groups, and companies that have played a pivotal role in our narrative.

It’s been a privilege beyond measure to contribute to AnandTech for almost two decades, including serving as its editor-in-chief for the past ten years. While it’s a blend of emotions to witness the final pages of AnandTech unfold, I stand proud of our collective accomplishments. From showcasing outstanding products to crafting evergreen tech guides, and witnessing the emergence of new tech luminaries, it’s been quite a journey.

It’s no easy task to pen today’s update for AnandTech, as it signifies the culmination of over 27 years of delving into the expansive and exhilarating realm of computer hardware.

To all who have accompanied AnandTech on this voyage – supporters, companions, readers, and fellow tech aficionados – I extend my heartfelt gratitude for your unwavering support over the years.

Yet, all things must come to an end, and the era of written tech journalism has undergone transformation, evolving beyond recognition. Therefore, it is time for AnandTech to bid adieu and clear the path for the next wave of tech journalists to leave their mark.

For those in pursuit of cutting-edge tech perspectives, fret not – our long-standing contender and fellow Future brand, Tom’s Hardware, will continue to delve into the realm of technology. Some familiar faces from AnandTech have already joined their ranks, ensuring an abundance of expertise to fuel your appetite for tech updates in written form.

My deepest thanks go to the editors who have lent their expertise over the years, shaping AnandTech into the powerhouse it is today. They have been the lifeblood of the site, crafting insightful articles that delineate AnandTech’s legacy. It’s been an honor to collaborate with such talented individuals, many of whom have gone on to achieve remarkable success in their respective fields.

The publishing domain has witnessed significant transformations over the years. AnandTech wasn’t the pioneer in hardware enthusiasts’ websites, nor will it be the last. However, through diligence, strategic investments, and the unwavering support of our allies, colleagues, and readers, we’ve managed to thrive.

A special shoutout to our final cohort of editors, who have steered us through to the conclusion, going above and beyond to deliver tech updates from across the globe.

I express gratitude to the hardware and software companies we have collaborated with over the years. Beyond supplying review samples, they have granted us rare access to industry experts who shed light on intricate technologies and innovations. Engaging with these minds has been an invaluable learning experience, pushing us to dive deeper into technological advancements.

In closing, as this chapter draws to a close, I implore tech journalists to hold steadfast to the principles of ethical reporting and top-notch content creation. In an age saturated with sensationalism, the necessity for thorough reporting remains paramount. Let’s maintain equilibrium and deliver informative, insightful pieces that withstand the test of time.

Thanks are also due to our publishers, Future PLC and Purch, for allowing AnandTech the autonomy to carve its own path over the years. Editorial freedom has been our forte, empowering us to produce content that resonates with our audience.
