With Google shifting focus towards AI lately, there’s been less emphasis on Chromebooks. However, this is changing with an array of new AI features introduced for Google-powered laptops. The latest premium Chromebooks will soon sport features like image generation, text summarization, and more integrated into the OS. In addition, a new Lenovo Chromebook with special AI upgrades is set to launch, leveraging high-performance hardware for these exclusive functionalities.
Although Google’s AI functions are cloud-driven, they are specifically tailored for this advanced laptop category running on Google. Leveraging Gemini, the Help Me Read feature enables users to condense long documents and web pages by simplifying complex data. The new Summarize function can swiftly convert dense, technical text into a more user-friendly format with just a couple of clicks.
Users of Chromebook Plus devices, requiring a modern CPU and a minimum of 8GB of RAM, can anticipate a set of features similar to other Google products. Lens, for instance, is expanding its capabilities on Chrome OS, allowing users to select a specific area of the screen for a visual search by long-pressing the launcher icon. Moreover, Lens offers text capture functionality and seamless integration with Google Calendar and Docs.
Google has rolled out a fresh AI trial for users of Chromebook Plus devices. Those who go for these top-tier Chromebooks will get a 12-month complimentary trial of the Google AI Pro plan, which gives access to 2TB of cloud storage, extended features of Google’s Gemini Pro model, and NotebookLM Pro. An interesting addition is the integration of NotebookLM into the Chrome OS shelf.
Google has highlighted the significance of Gemini models in these latest updates. The Quick Insert key, initially introduced last year, now comes with a new visual component. While originally used for effortlessly incorporating images or emojis, it now also has the ability to generate images instantly through AI technology.
