Engaging in open-source collaborations, even with modest contributions, proves to be rewarding. It demands perseverance, especially given our hectic schedules and limited resources.
An intriguing aspect to note is that in addition to the 0.44.0 update, I received another notification announcing the successful merging of one of my PRs.
So, I received word about a new wtfutil update the other day.
My PR was centered around the wtfutil documentation site repository, which I had submitted in March 2023, shortly before the most recent release.
It’s been quite some time since the prior release, namely version 0.43.0 released on February 24.
It’s truly gratifying to witness my contribution integrated into the official release. A big thanks to the wtfutil maintainers for embracing it and incessantly enhancing this tool. I eagerly anticipate diving into the latest release and forthcoming updates through GitHub notifications.
This new addition simplifies my ability to monitor my colleagues’ availability. While I could have opted for alphabetical ordering or hardcoding the sequence in my config file, I favor my enhancement as it adjusts seamlessly to new entries and alterations in time zones.
This innovation introduces reverse chronological sorting. I incorporated this aspect since I rely on wtfutil to keep tabs on my coworkers’ time zones, finding it more logical to have the latest times displayed first for assessing availability when commencing the day.
I must admit it’s quite fascinating how GitHub keeps me updated on the recent releases of the projects I follow. Remember when I stressed the significance of utilizing GitHub Releases?
Take, for instance, the reverse chronological ordering showcased in the clocks module:
This time around, the update pertained to version 0.44.0 of wtfutil, a tool I’ve been experimenting with recently.
It revolved around a fresh sorting feature that I implemented in one of the modules for wtfutil. The documentation now outlines this novel feature available in v0.44.0.
And here’s a glance at the chronological ordering:
